Department of Architecture, Interior Architecture and Designed Objects

whatnot is a collection of affordable objects that offers an experience rich in materiality and meaning, while allowing
for a bit of necessary joy, irrational desire, and simple satisfaction. The 2014 collection showcases design that encourage
a child’s interaction with the people, places, and circumstances around them. The collection is borne from a year-long studio
that teaches product development by producing objects for exhibition and purchase during the Milan Furniture Fair.
This is the fourth showing of student designers from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and was taught, produced,
and curated by Professors George Aye, Lisa Smith and Jim TerMeer.
